PFC Floyd Doran Duey, Battery L, 4th Batt, 10th Marines
Serial # 412079
Foley, Missouri
This memorial plack was hand made by Floyd Rude on the island of Saipan for his friend Floyd D. Duey.
Both men went through basic training together and fought together. On June 16, 1944, Floyd Duey was struck in the head by shrapnel. In honor of his friend, Floyd Rude found this piece of aluminum in a blown up factory on the island of Saipan and constructed this plack. It was placed on the Duey's cross in the cemetery on the island. However, the plack wasn't allowed to stay on his grave so Floyd Rude carried it with him the remainder of the war. After the war, Floyd Rude brought the plack home with him and kept it all of these years in memory of his past friend Floyd D. Duey. Both Marines also fought on Tarawa.
Thanks to Austin Wideman and the Duey family.
