Awarded the Silver Star for actions on Tarawa 23 November 1943:
Decorated by Admiral Nimitz at Camp Tarawa on a rainy 1 March 1944. Tachovsky was later awarded the Bronze Star for action on Saipan. His son wrote a book on the exploits of his father and the men of the Scout Sniper Platoon called, "40 Thieves on Saipan."
