"This is Elmer "Pappy" Friedriechsen, I believe he was in his 40s when he was in boot training. He froze while firing a .50 machinegun off the top of the turret. The shells went up into Camp Pendleton. The Buck Sargeant punched him and knocked him clear off the turret. After boot camp he snapped out of it and he was a heck of a good Marine."
