Serial # 19448
Loyd was wounded on Tarawa and later killed on Saipan June 15, 1944. He was a 2nd Lt. on Tarawa and had been promoted to 1st Lt. by the Saipan invasion. Loyd was of Finnish descent and lived near Superior, Wisconson. This picture was saved by a boyhood friend from Wisconson, William E. Talvitie. According to the American Battle Monuments Commission he is either listed as Missing in Action or Buried at Sea which means his body was probably not recovered.
