Frank Johnston, H&S 2
I joined the Comm Platoon shortly before we left New Zealand. I was assigned to R-2, Intelligence, when I got to New Zealand in July. They either had too many or to few and I must have been expendable. I did get to know some of the radio section like Haddad, Gross, Geil, White, and others. I was with the wire section but got to know more of the radiomen in Hawaii after getting back from Tarawa.
I was on the O.P. on Saipan when I heard that Gross and Geil were hit with our own rockets. I saw some of the carnage that the Navy pilot caused, but never saw Gross or Geil again.
Frank Johnston is on the far right. Bill Haddad is has his right hand on the Tribune.
Frank is standing to the left. This was probably taken in New Zealand before Tarawa.
