Private First Class Robert L. Kennedy
January 1942: Left San Diego on the Matsonia.
Spent time on American Samoa.
November 1942: Disembarked at Guadalcanal as reinforcements to the 1st Marine Division.
February: Brought to Wellington New Zealand and formed the 2nd Marine Division.
November: Made assault landing on Tarawa and was shot in the head and wasn't expected to make it through the night.
December: Training in Hawaii.
June 1944: Saipan landing hit again but OK to carry on.
July: Tinian another assault landing.
September 1944: returned to the States.
All the original 8th Marines that had left San Diego in January 1942 were relieved of combat. There were 6 Marines left of the original platoon.
