"Now in a rest camp after taking part in the furious fighting on Tarawa in the Gilberts, Cpl. Clarence Kilmek received 38 letters, 13 Christmas boxes and 28 Press-Gazette issues shortly after his arrival there, he told his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kilmek, 1220 E. Walnut St."
