LVT-1 #49
Note the extra steel plates welded onto LVT 49. This makeshift armor was installed in New Zealand to give some protection to the 2 man crew. Many bullet impacts can be seen on the front of the cab and side. See the damage diagram below. Many knocked out LVTs can be seen in the background just off Red Beach 1. The open hatch on the turret of a Sherman tank from C Company, Med Tank Battalion is just behind the two LVTs.
In the background of LVT 44 is LVT 2 #9 and LVT 49.
The landing team sign, "2-21" is still affixed to LVT 49 even after the battle.
