Private First Class Howard D. Wilson was born February 26, 1920 at Winfield, Kansas and lost his life November 25, 1943 in the service of his country in the battle of Tarawa. He was reared on the farm of his parents Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wilson, 3½ miles west of Abarr and grew to manhood there.
In December 1937 he graduated from the Reisch School of Auctioneering at Austin, Minn. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on November 18, 1941 - on his brother, Robert's birthday. After completing his basic training, he served as an instructor on the rifle range at San Diego, California for 11 months before going overseas.
